Lomi Lomi is Hawaiian for rub-rub. This Hawaiian system of massage utilizes a very broad, gentle but deep, soothing yet invigorating style of massage. It is claimed to be one of the most relaxing of bodywork styles. Using continuous and flowing strokes of the forearms and combining aloha touch, this treatment relaxes the entire being while assisting in letting go of old cellular patterns and behaviors that cause lifestyle limitations. Lomi Lomi massage therapy has been practiced throughout the South Pacific for thousands of years promoting healing, stress reduction and rejuvenation. There are several variations of Lomi Lomi, some being Polole Lomi, "the gentle hand of the mother," Oluea Lomi, "to harmonize body, mind and spirit," and Oluli Lomi, "to ignite the life-force." According to Huna “breath of life” philosophy, energy tends to get blocked in the joints. Therefore, gentle stretches of the body and rotations of the joints are incorporated to assist the release of tensions and assist the flow of energy.
A Lomi Lomi usually begins with warm soothing, aromatic Coconut Oil and a gentle rocking of the body. The therapist often uses the forearm and the elbow in the application of pressure to free energy. In this respect there is no set format or sequence for the massage and no two massages will ever be identical as the therapist works intuitively with each guests individual need.
